Steve Swaringen holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and spent thirty years building precision manufacturing equipment for the semiconductor industry: machines that combined advanced lasers, precision optics, custom electronics, and precision motion control to perform microscopic surgery on defective memory chips.

He worked as a systems engineer, which meant serving as chief architect when a machine was being designed and chief troubleshooter when it refused to behave. The job required knowing enough about lasers, optics, electronics, precision mechanics, motion control, and control software to be certain the integrated whole would hold together, without being the expert in any one of them. The experts worked beside him. Thirty years of that is a particular education in how complicated things succeed, and in the people who make them succeed.

Retired from that industry, he now provides technology consulting to churches, building tools that make ministry more efficient.

Three subjects have held his attention for most of his life: leadership, theology, and science — and above all the relationship between the last two. He describes himself as an amateur theologian, and means the word literally. He writes his fiction from the conviction that a reader need not choose between the evidence of the physical world and the claims of faith, and that the most interesting questions live where the two meet.

He is the author of Two, Forager, and Forerunner — the Benignitas series. He lives in Texas with his wife and son.
